The Man From Space

I am proud to introduce a brand new children’s picture book I have illustrated!

In August 2010, my friend Kalidas approached me with a story he had written for his son, “The Man From Space”.  He asked if I’d be interested in creating illustrations for it, and transforming the poem into a children’s book.  The spirit of the story, as well as the comfortable rhythm of the stanzas, appealed to me immediately.

Based on information we gathered from various sources, Kalidas (pronounced KAH-lee-dass, like cauliflower) and I decided to self-publish the book.

I spent most of 2011 sketching, researching, revising, and painting the final illustrations (acrylic on watercolor paper).  There are 16 illustrations, three of them being 2-page spreads.  Our book is 36 pages, with dimensions of  8.5″ wide by 10″ tall.

To raise funds to get the book printed, Kalidas and launched a campaign on Kickstarter, an online fundraising platform for creative projects.  Our fundraising campaign lasted 30 days, and our goal was $4900.  On October 1, 2012, our Kickstarter campaign concluded with 93 backers and $5515 in pledges!

“The Man From Space” is available for purchase from Gale’s studio (Poudre Studio Artists, 406 North College Avenue in Fort Collins) and from these locations in Fort Collins: Clothes Pony/Dandelion Toys, Booklovers Corner Store, Bizarre Bazaar, Matter Bookstore/The Bean Cycle, and Cafe Ardour.
